Advanced electronics and materials
Much of the work overlaps between them. Filtronic makes radio-frequency components for satellite communications, defence radar and telecommunications networks. Kromek makes radiation detectors used in border security and medical imaging.

CPI operates three national innovation centres here, covering printable electronics, formulations and healthcare photonics. Two national Catapult centres are on campus.
Durham University, which ranks in the top 100 universities worldwide, is based in Orbit, with its Centre for Advanced Instrumentation on site. You can work with researchers, run collaborative projects and recruit graduates without leaving the park.
Business Durham can connect you with funding, including Finance Durham, as well as with recruitment support, research partners and suppliers.
The £100m expansion has added 11 units, ranging from 11,500 to 35,700 sq. ft. Each is delivered as a shell, so you can fit out the laboratories, cleanrooms, and production space your process requires, rather than working around someone else’s layout.
Every unit has a double-height bay at the rear for manufacturing or high-bay R&D, with room at the front and sides for two floors of offices and laboratories.
Air-source heat pumps, powered by an on-site solar array, provide heating. The buildings are designed to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating, so your running costs and reporting both benefit.

Who is already here?
More than 40 companies and over 1,000 people work at NETPark, ranging from university spin-outs to businesses exporting worldwide. Filtronic, Kromek, Pragmatic Semiconductor, aXenic, REPROCELL Europe and Magnitude Biosciences are among them.
Kromek arrived as a Durham University spin-out when NETPark opened in 2004. It now operates facilities in the UK and the United States and remains here.
